In "Ritual" (2019–2021), I referenced Dutch vanitas still lifes to critique modern culture's obsession with beauty and excess. Using my body to create campy, maximalist tableaus inspired by 1950s advertising and pin-up aesthetics, I explored how women are reduced to consumable parts—legs, hands—by digital consumption culture. My work deliberately employs the visual tropes of advertising and fashion to create lush, seductive imagery that initially appears familiar—even appealing—before revealing deeper critiques. This strategy draws viewers in through recognizable visual languages, then subverts their expectations to engage with complex ideas they might otherwise resist. This work toured internationally, was exhibited alongside Basquiat and Warhol, and received the Julia Margaret Cameron Award.
